"Pruning paralysis" (noun): A gardener's fear of pruning plants that leads to no pruning at all. Many gardeners are intimidated by the prospect of pruning woody trees and shrubs. There are a few basic Tenants of Pruning that gardeners can follow to reduce harm to their plants, and avoid bad techniques that set up plants to be "over managed" or fail completely. Join professional Garden Coach, Sierra Laverty (the Idaho Plant Doctor) in a 1 hr hands-on workshop at the Edwards Greenhouse Demonstration Garden. Bring warm layers, a notebook, and a sense of curiosity for how plants work! Masks are required.
Sierra Laverty is a 6th generation Idahoan and a professional horticulturist. She received a B.S. in Horticulture from Oregon State University, and is now a Masters in Entomology candidate with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. As a natural born learner, Sierra's philosophy is to use science and evidence-based experience to care for plants in the best way possible. After overseeing the plant health and horticulture volunteer programs at the Idaho Botanical Garden, she started Idaho Plant Doctor, a plant health consulting and garden coaching business. Sierra is an INLA Certified Plant Diagnostician.
